THE LAKE

Boux is situated in the beautiful Morvan region county in the middle East of France.
The hilly and wooded scenery is lovely in that rural area. The lake is isolated with no public footpaths or public access.
The lake is rented out on an exclusive basis for a maximum of 5 anglers. This long established private lake is well known across the world for producing big gorgeous mirrors and commons. The atmosphere is here quite unique and remarkable and even a bit spooky at times !

Driving time down from Calais is 6hrs but well worth it!

THE FISH

Boux currently holds over 250 adult carp up to 57lb and grass carp up to 45lb. Roughly 50 of the carp are over the 30lb barrier.
Weeks where 40's are not caught are quite unusual. However, don't expect them to jump in the net. Originally renowned in the early eighties for its small head of very large carp, Boux is now also a prolific fishery with a plentiful head of twenties and thirties to accompany the monsters, some grass carp to 40lb+ may also surprise you.

This lake is one of these “must go” venues, the fish, the lake history and the unique atmosphere make Boux a fishery to add to the calendar of any continental carper .
Despite the feeling that you are in the middle of nowhere supermarkets are only five minutes away in the village of Moulins Engilbert.

FISHING ADVICE

The maximum distance you may need to cast is just under 100 yards but most fish get caught within 30yrds of the bank. It is recommended that you take a boat, this will help you place your rigs and land the fish, a boat is available on site but a second boat helps to minimise disturbance in between swims. Boux fish tend to respond well to single hookbaits and light baiting strategies using stringers or PVA bags with pellets. Boilies presented over a clump of pre-prepared hemp have done very well.

As far as boilies are concerned, quality is better than quantity. Most modern fishmeal based baits have done well but the carp sometimes switch over to sweet baits such as Honey, Strawberry, Bio-Multi-Vitamins and Scopex. Rig wise the snowman is a good all rounder but bottom baits will catch well in the margins. For your information a lot of the big fish get caught in less than 6ft of water even if crashing fish can be seen in the deeper parts.

Remember that to drive in France your car should be equipped with light deflectors, a first aid box and a warning triangle. National speed limit is 90kph, motorway speed limit is 130kph. Motorway tolls accept most credit cards. French rush-hours are 8-9am and 5.30-7.30 pm, avoid main towns during these hours.
