| More sturgeon up to 30kg / 66.12lb were stocked including Beari, Transmontanus and hybrids which are extremely rare fish ! These currently are in full winter colours but will become orange and white as soon as the water temperature rises above 10°C. The hybrids are the result of the very first succesful crossing of baeri and transmontanus (diamondback). Several attempts had been made since 1975 but all proved not to be viable. If you were to compare colours and markings, you would call these "ghost sturgeon". They are very sociable and curious creatures from the dark ages of fish taxonomy which inspires us respect and care for what we do not know about the past of fish in general. After a harrowing trip which involved the lorry being stuck in snow only half a mile from the lake we finally managed to get the new guests into a more spacious environment than the 250 gallon insulated oxygen boosted tanks. We were relieved and so were they, only minutes after their escape, they were heading and shouldering in the few gaps between the ice. After a few slaps in the face for us during the photo shoot they were feeding on pellet within literally seconds of going into their their new home. These things mean business and since their arrival our pellet budget is likely to soar to their insatiable appetite. In the meantime, it is just awesome to watch them tailwalkingabove surface whilst the air temperature is -5°c, you just know those rods should be out right now ! |
